  1. Dental formula is a way of showing what an
  2. animal's teeth are like. The dental formula
  3. consists of eight numbers separated by a line 
  4. into two rows. The four above the line
  5. represent the teeth in one side of the upper
  6. jaw, starting at the front. If this reads
  7. 2 1 2 3 (as for humans) it means two 
  8. incisors, one canine, two premolars, and 
  9. three molars. The numbers below the line
  10. represent the lower jaw. The total number of
  11. teeth can be calculated by adding up all the
  12. numbers and multiplying by two.
